The West Africa Built Environment Research (WABER) Conference was initiated in 2009. The objectives are:
- To help early career built environment researchers to develop their research work and skills through face-to-face interaction with experienced international academics and their peers;
- To provide an outlet for publishing and disseminating current research work;
- To provide a platform for interaction among more established academics; and
- To serve as a vehicle for developing the built environment field in Africa.
We are happy to announce that the 7th WABER Conference will take place at the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana on 16th – 18th August 2017.
2017 CONFERENCE FORMAT
The format for our 2017 Conference will be different from the format we have used in recent years. The greater part of the time will not be spent on paper presentations by authors. The 2017 Conference will mostly consist of interactive workshops and sessions on research related topics and issues of interest to participants. We have three experienced international academics who will engage with participants on the common and unique issues we grapple with in our research; and expose participants to cutting edge knowledge and practices for dealing with these issues. We expect participants to acquire new research insights and capacity relating to contemporary epistemological and methodological approaches, research design, research quality and impact, getting published in good journals, supervising research students, current and future trends in built environment research.
The conference will therefore provide a platform to share and develop research knowledge and skills. Some of the workshops will be based on discussion of current research by PhD researchers requiring constructive feedback; and presentations by authors with interesting findings from recent research. Thus, only a selection of papers will be presented at the Conference although all accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. Those who do not have the opportunity to present their papers can do a poster presentation. Authors of the best papers will be invited to develop them further for publication in the African Journal of Built Environment Research.
We invite built environment doctoral researchers across the continent, academics with interesting findings from recent research, and anyone interested in building their research capacity and network to participate in this conference.
